As she advanced up the widening street, an autumn bouquet surrounded her. Sarah had forgotten how beautifully the streets were lined with nature’s serendipity. Any minute she would arrive home, the first time in years they would all be eating together.
Her thoughts wandered to long ago… they sat admiring the golden glazed turkey with dressing overflowing from its cavity, surrounded by Mom’s homemade cranberry sauce. They watched the way the light danced in little diamonds across the ruby red crystal on the ornately decorated table and all felt content. Mom loved to cook, loved entertaining and loved having us all together! Taking a deep breath inward Sarah could smell the sage and cinnamon even now. Ahh, just a little longer and she’d be there.
I am truly grateful, Sarah thought. Soon she would partake of her favorite things; eating and sharing time with her loving family. She had been doing well on her own and just finished her second year of internship at Mount Sinai Hospital. She was able to save up enough to get her shiny, new, little red sports car without tapping into the trust that Nana had left for 25th birthday. She considered this the perfect occasion to tell them.
Amongst the aromatic scents, laughter, joy and love, at dinner Sarah would have the perfect moment to share the wonderful news of her engagement. This would be a Thanksgiving of gratitude and dinner they would remember!
